Freedom Spaces

Of Soul and Joy hosted an art therapy workshop on ‘Freedom Spaces’ in collaboration with University of Johannesburg & Centre for the Study of Race, Gender & Class (RGC) joined by guest keynote speaker Scheherazade Tilletz held on the 09 August 2022.

Scheherazade Tilletz is a US-based artist and gender activist. Blending social documentary, portraiture, and social practice, Scheherazade intimately photographs the inner lives and public performances of Black girlhood throughout the United States and the Caribbean, while also centering the gaze of and actively collaborating with her Black girl subjects. In addition to her photographic work, she also curates and is the co-founder of an NGO called A Long Walk Home, which uses art to empower young people and end violence against girls and women.
